"Choosing a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches"

       What this quote means to me is that if you are rich but have a bad name for yourself, people wont trust you. Say you're applying to a school, if you have a bad name they will not accept you. If you've made a good name for yourself they will trust you and accept you. Having a bad name affects how your life goes on. Whether you're applying for a job or a school. Your name will follow you everywhere you go. Having a good name comes in handy in a lot of situations. It applies to a lot of situations that you may have found yourself in.
